MEDIA Initiative for Women in Zambia (MIWOZ) has joined other stakeholders in congratulating the Non-Government Organisation Coordinating Committee (NGOOC) Zambia on marking 40 years of existence in fighting for gender issues and rights of women and girls among others.
In a statement issued yesterday by MIWOZ Executive Director Hellen Mwale, the Organisation observes that (NGOCC) has over the past 40 years demonstrated tireless efforts in improving the lives of women and children in Zambia.
“As the Media Initiative for Women in Zambia (MIWOZ), an organisation that aims to strengthen and amplify voices for women and girls, we draw inspiration from your remarkable work and resilience over the years,’’ Ms Mwale said.
She said NGOCC’s commitment to promoting gender issues, good governance, and amplifying the voices of women and girls has been truly commendable.
“Your dedication to creating a more equitable society has yielded significant achievements, and we would like to highlight a few,’’ she said.
Ms Mwale said in terms of advocacy and policy influence, NGOCC has been instrumental in advocating for policies that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, such as the National Gender Policy and the Constitution Amendment Act.
In terms of capacity budding, NGOCC has provided training to numerous women’s groups, equipping them with skills and knowledge to participate in decision-making processes..
She said MIWOZ has learnt a lot of lesson from the NGOCC as the Organisation has continued to create platforms for women to share their experiences, concerns, and ideas, ensuring their voices are heard and valued.
MIWOZ has also appreciated the NGOOC for subscribing to many policies and protocals including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development among others.
“These commitments demonstrate your organization’s unwavering dedication to promoting gender equality and women’s rights. As MIWOZ, we are proud to collaborate with NGOCC in promoting gender issues, governance, and amplifying the voices of women and girls. We look forward to working together to create a more just and equitable society for all,’’ the statement read.
