Nyagatare District Council has officially initiated an intensive community outreach campaign scheduled to run from March 1 to March 8 2026. Operating under the theme Imparirwakurusha nkore neza bandebereho this initiative aims to bridge the gap between elected officials and citizens while accelerating socio economic development.

The campaign serves as a critical platform for monitoring performance contracts and inspecting large scale infrastructure projects that are vital to the district’s transformation. At the center of these efforts is the Muvumba Multipurpose Dam a strategic investment valued at 121.5 million euros funded by the African Development Bank with an additional 2.7 million euro contribution from the Government of Rwanda. This project is expected to be completed by November 6 2026 and will provide irrigation for 3 000 hectares across the sectors of Rukomo Nyagatare Tabagwe Karama and Rwempasha.

During the council’s field visits several workers at the dam site shared how the project has stabilized their household economies. Nsabimana Emmanuel who joined the project while unemployed highlighted his newfound financial security

He further noted that the dam would offer a permanent solution to regional droughts by increasing agricultural production and providing reliable access to clean water and electricity.

The project has also created significant opportunities for the younger generation

Kamariza Hadjara a young employee at the site expressed her gratitude to the Rwandan government for prioritizing youth employment in national development projects.
