Zambia and Tanzania have agreed on a number of security measures to tackle transnational organized crimes across the common border.
The two countries have also pledged to enhance corporation and enhance their bilateral ties.
The agreements were made during the 4th Session of the Tanzania-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security in Arusha, Tanzania.
Zambia’s Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Maambo Haamaundu noted that implementing a set of strategies agreed at the meeting will enhance peace and security in the two countries.
Mr. Haamaundu stated that the highest offices in the two countries want to see the full implementation of the agreed strategies.
“Zambia is committed to ensure that all what has been agreed in Arusha is implemented,” he stressed.
He made the remarks at the close of the Senior Officials Meeting of the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security in Tanzania.
And Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ally Gugu lauded that country’s President
Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema for working together and enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries.
“The two Presidents have raised the diplomatic relations which have historically been good,” Mr. Gugu stated.
He urged experts who have drafted the strategies to ensure full implementation before the next Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security.
On Friday, 27 February 2026, Defence and Home Affairs Ministers from Zambia and Tanzania will join the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security when it culminates into a Ministerial Meeting.
This is according to a statement issued by Ministry of Defence, Principal Public Relations Officer, Paul Shalala.
