Dakar, Senegal – President Paul Kagame arrived in Dakar on August 31, 2025, to participate in the Africa Food Systems (AFS) Forum, a high-level continental platform focused on transforming Africa’s agricultural systems and achieving food sovereignty.
Upon arrival, President Kagame was received by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, ahead of the week-long forum that brings together government leaders, private sector players, researchers, and agribusiness stakeholders from across the continent.
The forum, which runs until September 5, is expected to convene over 6,000 participants, all committed to a shared vision of ending food insecurity in Africa and reshaping its food systems to meet the demands of a growing population and a changing climate.
President Kagame’s participation builds on Rwanda’s leadership in agricultural transformation, having hosted the previous edition of the AFS Forum in Kigali. His presence in Dakar signals continued commitment to collaborative solutions aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, increasing investment in food systems, and strengthening intra-African cooperation.
The Africa Food Systems Forum provides a space for critical discussions around policy, innovation, and investment needed to make African agriculture more resilient, inclusive, and self-sustaining. This year’s agenda focuses on leveraging technology, empowering youth and women in agriculture, and building stronger supply chains from farm to market.
