Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has reflected on the difficult emotional journey she went through following a painful breakup. While many view tattoos as a form of beauty or personal expression, for her, it became a way to cope with deep emotional wounds.
In a recent interview with journalist Katy Igwe, Tiwa Savage explained that her decision to get a tattoo was not about fun or public display, but rather a response to intense emotional pain. She shared that she chose to have the tattoo done privately at her home in Lagos, Nigeria, by an artist flown in from Los Angeles, as she did not want her emotional state to be visible to others in a public tattoo parlor.
She experienced physical effects during the process, including heavy bleeding, which led her to ask the artist if it could be a serious issue. However, she later understood that it was a physical manifestation of the emotional distress she was going through. For her, the tattoo session became a way to release the inner pain she couldn’t put into words.
Tiwa Savage revealed that the past two years had been particularly challenging for her due to the end of a significant relationship. Despite the hardship, she expressed gratitude for having moved on and said she is now in a much better place emotionally.
