Rwanda ended the first window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers without a win, following a 69-75 overtime defeat to Nigeria in Rades on November 30. The loss marks Rwanda’s sixth consecutive defeat in FIBA-recognized competitions.
In a tense matchup, Rwanda led 60-55 with 25 seconds left and maintained a 61-58 advantage with four seconds remaining. However, a late foul allowed Nigeria to score a crucial basket and free throw, forcing overtime. Nigeria then outpaced Rwanda 14-8 in the extra period to claim the victory.
With the defeat, Rwanda concludes Group C’s first qualifying window with a 0-3 record, while Nigeria earned their first win of the window, finishing 1-2. Rwanda’s last victory in FIBA competition dates back to February 2025 against Gabon during the AfroBasket qualifiers.
The team now returns home, aiming to regroup and prepare for the next window in the qualifying campaign.
