The APR WVC team is currently in Abuja, Nigeria, participating in the African Championship, which brings together top teams from various countries. Alongside Rwandans living in Nigeria and Rwanda’s friends, they commemorated the 31st anniversary of the Genocide Against the Tutsi in April 1994. The commemoration ceremony took place on April 7, 2025, and was attended by various dignitaries, including ambassadors representing their countries in Nigeria, religious leaders, and a representative from the United Nations (UN).
The event aimed to remember the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and brought together Rwandans and their friends to emphasize unity and preserve history. After the commemoration, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) agreed to observe a moment of silence to honor the Tutsi victims before the games between APR WVC and Police WVC, both teams representing Rwanda in the competition.

APR WVC, which finished second in Group A, is set to play against VC La Loi from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Police WVC, which finished third in Group D, will face Prisons from Kenya, who finished second in Group B.

The competition features 16 teams from across Africa and is taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, from April 1 to April 14, 2025. The teams, including APR WVC and Police WVC, are showing dedication both in the games and in commemorating the history of the Genocide, while also striving for progress in African volleyball.
