Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira Passes Away

Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, who served as the Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), has passed away at the age of 61. She was known for her extensive experience and contribution to governance and sustainable development.

She previously served as the Mayor of Kigali, Governor of Rwanda’s Eastern Province, and Member of Parliament. She also held a prominent role within the United Nations as the Deputy Executive Director of UN-HABITAT.

In 2020, she was appointed Rwanda’s Ambassador to Ghana, also representing the country in Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, and Liberia.

Dr. Kirabo also served as the head of RALGA (Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities), chaired the Forum of Local Government Leaders in Eastern Africa, and was Vice President of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG).

She held a PhD in Veterinary Medicine from James Cook University in Australia and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field from Makerere University in Uganda.

Her career spanned over 30 years, marked by service in national and international institutions dedicated to urban development, good governance, and humanitarian work.
