Recent protests in Tanzania, triggered by dissatisfaction with the presidential elections, have escalated to attacks on the properties of public figures associated with President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Demonstrators, mainly youth, have set fire to businesses and vandalized infrastructure belonging to prominent Tanzanian artists and entrepreneurs.
Among those affected is musician Juma Jux, whose store valued at over 700 million Tanzanian shillings was burned. Rapper Billnas also saw his electronics business damaged, and Shilole’s restaurant was set on fire. These actions are reported to be linked to the artists’ public support for President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the recent elections.
Currently, Juma Jux is in Nigeria, where his wife, Priscilla Ojo, is from. Meanwhile, concerns are growing over the safety of other high-profile figures in Tanzania, including Diamond Platnumz, who has openly expressed support for President Samia Suluhu Hassan on social media. Diamond’s business ventures in Tanzania include Wasafi Radio and Television, Wasafi Studios, and other commercial enterprises.
On social media, some posts have incited further hostility toward Diamond Platnumz, calling for boycotts and expressing anger at his political stance. Authorities and citizens continue to monitor the situation as protests spread, raising concerns about property security and public safety in the country.
