Mugisha Benjamin, widely known as The Ben, one of the most prominent figures in Rwandan music, has once again reminded his fans that his journey into music began unexpectedly, shaped by key people in his life particularly Muyombo Thomas, known as Tom Close.
In a message shared on social media on August 6, 2025, The Ben reflected on his life journey, from childhood to achieving his dream of performing a major concert at BK Arena during the Giants of Africa Festival. He shared that growing up, his dreams constantly changed at one point he wanted to be a football player, then later a worship leader at his mother’s church. But everything took a turn he didn’t expect, as music called him unknowingly, inspired by the guidance and support of his close friend Tom Close.
The Ben revealed that Tom Close had advised him to study science when he pursued Biochemistry, but was also the one who encouraged him to get into music. He shared this with deep appreciation for the friend who played a major role in opening the door to his music career.
He described the journey as one led by God not something he chose, but rather something that chose him. He sees his talent as part of a greater purpose he was called to fulfill, and he is ready to discover what that means beyond just singing.
This reflection came after a major performance at the Giants of Africa Festival, where The Ben expressed heartfelt gratitude for how warmly fans received him, saying it reminded him of when he began his musical journey with only dreams and how people’s love carried him to become one of the most respected artists on an international level.
The concert demonstrated the level of preparation and investment he put in, as he performed with a team of 55 people, including artists, dancers, and instrumentalists a clear sign of a career built on vision and professionalism.
The Ben shared that while he became widely known for his love songs, he is now stepping into a new journey with a deeper message one he is ready to embrace. He said this new path is rooted in faith and a continued understanding of God’s purpose for his life.
